Snake's Take: Will Manny be 'Mannywood' Manny?

Snake's Take: Will Manny be 'Mannywood' Manny?

As Dodger fans wanted Manny, and it is obvious that the Dodgers needed him, a scary thought went through my mind. If the deal is a multi-year deal will he produce? Now you may be thinking “of course!” But wait, and look at this through a different context. Manny did great with the last half of the baseball season. He wanted a major contract! Of course he was going to work his butt off and carry this team into the playoffs. He wanted to show the baseball world that he is a superstar deserving of 100+ million dollars. Now he has a two year deal, where the second year is a player option. Most critics say he will opt out. That would mean he would have to try again to carry this team, and be the ‘Mannywood’ Manny we all love and know so well. But what if he counts on that second year? What if he takes it easy for the first year and doesn’t try that hard? Sure he would still seem like a star, but not that amazing star we saw dawning #99 for the first time in 2008. The second year would bring him just about as much money as the first year of the contract. He could then be ‘Mannywood’ Manny and play his hardest for the second year, carrying the Dodgers and justifying the money he would get that offseason. I hope this doesn’t come to fruition, and only is a random scary thought in my mind.

i commented on this elsewhere but i will bring the convo here..

IDK snake.. it DID sound like he was serious about contributing to the team.. he was talking about solidfying his legacy... and helping the team WIN... i think he will be a POSITIVE influence.. and he was even EAGER to get back here and get going.. sure he woulda loved to get paid too... but all in all.. i think he's finally learning that he's our GO TO GUY our ICON.. he can go down in the annals of history.. and not just that DODGERS history which is kinda hard to do.. and pretty special to boot :manny:

Yeah, he seems eager but we are talking about MANNY RAMIREZ here. Dude often says one thing and does another. Remember the night of Manny's debut. He said on the radio after the game that he was going to buy out Blake's number so Manny could have 33. Then he said he was going to change it to something else ... he stuck with 99. Maybe you are right, because when I heard he said those things about Boras I was REALLY surprised.
