Well, where to start....first off i'm bitterly disappointed about last night, seeing as we had a couple of good opportunities to blow the game wide open in our favor. the first inning when we had the Philly pitcher on the ropes, Raffy's bases loaded at bat, the way Manny and Matty fell short after Andre's impressive double in the later innings. Just a tough loss.....but i'm not giving up for one minute, my boys have come from too far and fought too hard to just surrender now, oh no, we're going to fight tooth and nail to the last out and if we go down in defeat it won't be caused by a lack of effort.
Anyway, despite the loss, i still felt a number of our players were worthy of player of the game honors, starting with Andre of course who proved the critics wrong (once again) by going 3 for 5 and easily handling all the left handed pitchers that were thrown his way. So here it is:
1) Andre: Had one bad at bat against Hamels early on but after that he really settled down and caused the surprise of the night when he smoked that double off the Philly pitcher in the 7th or 8th inning. Sadly, he was stranded at second base when Matty and Manny failed to drive him in, something which really crippled any hope we had of coming back. (well, that and George Sherrill of course lol) Terrific performance from Andre, he really has been a tower of strength for us in the playoff season.
2) Manny: 1 for 5 isn't so great, but the 2 run homer was really important, he pulled us to within 1 run when things were looking desperate and fired up the crowd which really got into the game from that point onward. Of course he really struggled outside of that at bat and looked to be late on almost every fastball thrown by a Philly pitcher. Some promising signs though, he may no longer be our most consistent hitter but at least he can provide the occasional power.
3) Big Games James: James looked great last night. Boy, when he has that swing working their may be no sweeter sight in all of baseball, just a natural hitter. I believe James hit what was his FIRST homer at Dodger Stadium last night, giving the Dodgers a brief lead in the early innings. He also played his usual sparkling defense and came up big in the 8th inning (or was it the 9th?) with that single off one of the Philly relievers. Terrific performance for James, i'm almost tempted to push him up to #2.
Well other than those 3 not much to get excited about. In particular Casey had a pretty bad night and Raffy wasn't much better, those boys need to step it up beginning today if we're going to have a chance. it's clear that in Andre we have the best player in the series but of course one player doesn't make a team, and it's time for the others to carry their fair share of the load. Oh, and Kersh, give the young man time. He's 21 years old! One of the few players on the team that i can actually claim is younger than me, lol, he was very solid until the 5th inning, when he probably got fristrated with the bad umpiring and lost the strike zone. The young man, like Andre now, will be a star one day, just be patient.
Go Dodgers!
Marge Simpson: "This is the WORST thing you've ever done!!!"
Homer Simpson (eyes rolling): "You've said that so many times it's lost all meaning".
After Homer accidentally blows up the local church.
